Mexico City is home to some 20 million people, spread out in 6,400 neighborhoods. Though it is plagued by numerous problems — pollution, traffic, overcrowding, and the fact that much of the city is sinking into the ground — it has been somewhat insulated from the narco-violence that has plagued much of Mexico in recent years. The megalopolis, commonly known as the Distrito Federal, or the DF, is often referred to as a bubble.
