Nigerian-born Akunyili Crosby wins artist prize from American Art Museum

The Smithsonian American Art Museum has awarded the 2014 James Dicke Contemporary Artist Prize to Njideka Akunyili Crosby for her “bold yet intimate” paintings.


Akunyili Crosby, 31, is the 11th winner of the annual prize, which is given to an artist younger than 50 who has produced a significant body of work. Akunyili Crosby was selected by an independent panel that praised her work as reflecting “the increasingly transnational nature of the contemporary art world.”
