Marsha Ambrosius — model of musical excellence, reigning queen of elegant, adult-contemporary bedroom music — typically floats on stage, sings beautiful, suggestive songs about love and longing, then glides off, presumably back to a life where she spends most of her time in a softly-lit studio composing sensual, romantic music. At the Howard Theatre on Wednesday night, Ambrosius, promoting her latest album, “Friends & Lovers,” did things just a bit differently, dispelling with the notion that she is some perfect, ethereal soul goddess.
