The Strokes, whether they like it or not, are forever affixed in our minds as the highly stylized nonchalance of New York cool, circa 2001. The insanely good hooks and gritty, tight songs on their debut album, "Is This It," earned rave reviews and launched the band to rock-and-roll savior status. And over time and subsequent albums - the safe-but-still-a-great-retread sophomore effort, "Room on Fire," the existential oddity, "First Impressions of Earth," and the misfires, "Angles" and "Comedown Machine" - that debut is still the work listeners return to most often.
